Berlin or Munich? UEFA determines the final for the EM 2024

The Golden DFB Cup shone in Berlin on Monday in Berlin under the big chandeliers in the Red City Hall. As usual, the final, this year on May 21st between SC Freiburg and RB Leipzig, will be organized in Germany’s capital – it is one of the few standard dates in the football calendar.

Berlin is considered a favorite

But the capital wants more. This Tuesday (from 1 p.m.), the UEFA executive committee will decide on the final location of the EM 2024 in Germany. Berlin seems to be a house -high favorite towards the competitor Munich. “I can only say to everyone who is wondering what is the right answer: this is Berlin,” said the ruling mayor of the capital, Franziska Giffey, on Monday of the dpa. “As a sports metropolis, we are simply the city, which is best suited to shine internationally for such an event.” Munich is the strongest competitor with the arena of FC Bayern.

What role do the rainbow colors play in the EM 2021?

Awarding in football is always considered politically influenced decisions. Munich was hosting four games of the pan -European European Championship last summer. The debate about the stadium’s rainbow lighting, which was not only in the football world, had driven a wedge between UEFA and city tour as a sign of solidarity during the world event. The UEFA wanted to be politically neutral – very few could understand that.

Officially, the “schedule for the final round” is on the agenda of the meeting of the UEFA decision-making body in Vienna. The UEFA and the DFB confirmed that the stadiums are also assigned to the games. At the 2006 World Cup in Germany, the then newly built Munich arena was awarded the contract for the start. The final between Italy and France took place in the Berlin Olympic Stadium.

EM-Logo as a hint?

The Logo EM 2024 is inspired by the roof shape of the Berlin Olympic Stadium. A note? A recommendation of the DFB will probably be presented to the UEFA-Exko on Tuesday.
