After more than a decade, Ahmed Kutucu turned his back on FC Schalke 04 last year – a drastic step for the 22 -year -old loan player of SV Sandhausen, as he admits before the duel with his old love in the 2nd Bundesliga.
“Of course it was difficult for me to leave my home club after eleven years. But sometimes you have to make such decisions in football,” said Kutucu in an interview with the “WAZ”.
Born in Gelsenkirchen, he switched from the offspring of Rot-Weiss Essen to the narrow in 2011. In January 2021, he was first moved to Heracles Almelo, due to a lack of eleven yearsing perspective, to the Turkish club Basaksehir Istanbul in summer. Kutucu has been on loan for Sandhausen since the beginning of the year.
ahmed kutucus expectations “not fully fulfilled”
“I wanted to have more game practice and had good conversations with coach Alois Schwartz and the eleven yearss director Mikayil Kabaca. I was also convinced that it was good for me to play again in Germany,” the attacker said the move to Schalke’s league competitor.
Before the home game against the royal blue, the SVS hovers as table 14. Only purely mathematically in the risk of relegation. Thanks to a strong second half of the season, the relegation is almost perfect.
For Kutucu personally, however, things are not going so well. The winter newcomer is only a substitute. He only scored a goal for Sandhausen. “My expectations have not fully fulfilled, but I am happy to be part of this team. I try to help the team as best as possible when I get used and bring me as much as possible,” said the ex-sephalder.
He will first return to Basaksehir in the summer, said Kutucu. “You can never say what will happen in the future, football is too fast.”
duel with FC Schalke 04 “A special situation”
The duel with the S04 is “a special situation” for him, Kutucu admitted. “But we still need points and that’s why I have to hide everything else on Friday.”
In the event of a goal, however, he would not cheer against the promotion aspirant “out of respect for the club and the fans”, the German-Turk announced.
