It has long been clear to everyone at Liverpool FC: Jürgen Klopp’s best transfer of the past decade was in autumn 2015. And possibly the end of the era that has been going on since then is still a little long in coming.
“The Athletic” reports on Thursday that the club tip is increasingly confident that Klopp is still able to move to an extension of his contract. The ex-Dortmund had tied to the Reds at the end of 2019 to 2024, but finally gave it to be understood again and again to stop afterwards.
“The plan is currently to come until 2024 and then – ‘Thank you nice'”, Klopp only explained in March. So far, it had been assumed that he would then take a Sabbath year. Does the plan change again?
War Gordon on Wednesday because of Klopp on site?
According to the report, Mike Gordon, President of the “Fenway Sports Group”, in whose possession of the LFC, was on Wednesday in Anfield when Klopp’s team won the first leg in the Champions League semi-final against Villarreal 2-0. Accordingly, he should advance an extension with Klopp, whose consultant Marc Kosicke was also on site.
The prospect of four titles this season and the renovation of the team, which has already been successfully initiated, could irritate Klopp to sign again. “At the moment I feel full of energy,” he recently said- a basic requirement for his work, which in Liverpool, among other things, have already led to a Champions League (2019) and a championship title (2020).
Apparently he doesn’t want to get old as a trainer. “It is very, very unlikely that I was still on the coaching bench at the mid -60,” was his announcement years ago. Klopp turns 55 in June.
