Federal Government leaves World Cup

The Federal Government has not yet decided whether high-ranking political representatives visit the World Cup in Qatar at the end of the year. The Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faaezer (SPD) to conclude the two-day Nancy Faaezers ministers conference of the countries in Hamburg.

The World Cup host has been in criticism for years because of the human rights situation and the conditions for foreign workers.

In March, Federal Minister of Economics Robert Daheck (Greens) traveled to economic talks in the Emirate. Among other things, the construction of a long-term energy partnership was spoken to make Germany more independent of Russian gas.

“I think that you have to judge every event exactly,” Faester said. “We also have a little support from Qatar, as it helps with the question of how to evacuate the former town forces from Afghanistan. In this respect we also have a form of – I call it careful – cooperation.”

Legislation in Qatar has already been changed with regard to working conditions and the minimum wage. “Now you have to check, it also takes place in reality. I already hold such processes essential,” said the minister.

The Olympic Winter Games in February in Beijing had diplomatically boycotted countries like the US, Great Britain, Canada and Australia because of human rights situation in China. Also Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) and Nancy Faeser were not traveling to China. But the Federal Government wanted to speak of a boycott as well as the Japanese government.
